Quinn started to search the cargo hold, for the third time. They were running low on rats and he did not want to risk exposure by the humans who had yet to come down here. Then again there was no food and no reason to look at the hold of a ship transporting printing machines. He had been stunned the day, well night he had actually been able to understand the strange buzz of thoughts he constantly heard.
The thing that really amazed him, he had kept from Adrian. He had had a strange ability to move small objects with a thought. It had never amounted to much out of fear and the heaviest object he had ever moved was a horseshoe. And that had exhausted him. Now he moved both satchels with ease though he could not do the same with Adrian.
He realized he had lost track of nights in the monotony and wondered if he had lost his mind saddling himself with this child vampire. Why did he bother? He only had Adrian's word that he would not have had died. Turning to the vampire his anger dissolved.
Curled up on his side in a fetal position he held a clenched fist to his chest. Lips parted slightly Quinn could see him fight for every breath. And he knew he did not want to see Adrian lose this battle. Instinctively he knew he needed very little blood to survive and a single person could feed him for weeks.
Suddenly he was assaulted by an increase in the noises about them. What was this new development? But he had a feeling. Finally finding a rat he brought it to his lips then tossed the carcass to the far side of the ship. It was still quite a distance away but he was starting to hear other humans. Maybe if he was above deck he could even see the shore in the distance.
Moving back over to Adrian he removed his over coat, that had been Adrian's blanket; pulling the boy into his arms he bit on his wrist and fed Adrian. Waiting a few moments he watched as the eyes fluttered.
"We are here."
"Here?"
"America, the ship will be docking soon, I can already hear them."
"Oh."
It actually took another hour for the ship to dock and in that time Adrian casually watched at Quinn paced, his anticipation making it hard for him to sit still.
"How can you be so calm?" Quinn asked as he noticed Adrian watching his pacing with a mild interest.
"Live 600 years you will learn patience," Adrian said tiredly. Then suddenly there was a jolt of the ship that nearly knocked Quinn to the floor in his surprise. Standing the elder vampire instantly started to sway. Quinn rushed to him and shook his head.
"We need to get something more substantial into you then what I can give you."
"I'll be fine soon enough," Adrian lied. He had never in his 600 years felt this weak, and he feared the only thing that could have made him well was on the other side of the world living in the lap of luxury. After living so long though, death was not a thought he could acquaint himself with.

"What do you see?"
"A great power comes, the strength of which has never been seen on these shores."
"Does it now?"
"And with it a great weakness."
"Make the preparations; they will dock in a few more hours."
"Yes my lady," She said calmly vanishing in the crowd.
On the other side of the docks another group vanished just as the ones before them had plans set into motion and the first steps in a dance of death played.
