February Etsy Update

February 15th, 2013
Comments Off

With, a cold that took me out for a week, reorganizing the craft room, and a power outage right when I started crafting this is going to likely be the smallest update to the shop ever.  But there are new things! And restocking of one quite popular item and a twist to another.

Pendragon Earrings

pendragon3     I read the Once and Future King the first time when I was seven. Really when the BBC started airing Merlin I was pretty much done for. The show was fun and turned things *I knew* on my ear and made me love it anyway, much like Smallville had done years before (I mean they turned me into a Lex Luthor fan). So the only thing that’s a surprise is how long it took to have the Pendragon anything in my shop. I’m sure items based on the characters will be soon to follow.  These earrings are a nod to the cloaks of the Knights, and the banners that were to be seen in Camelot.

Tardis Crochet Stitch Markers

tardiscsm4

Time and Relative Dimension in Space.  Similar to the knitting version these stitch markers are five blue Tardis markers, and one vanishing Tardis Marker. There are a few sets now up in the shop, and going forward there will be more crochet markers, of both old and new designs.

Four Leaf Clover Earrings

clover5

Four leaf clovers, lucky charms, warders off of bad luck. An all around good thing to have.  These earrings have  lightweight four leaf clover charms and crackle beads, to add a bit of luck to any outfit.

And lastly I restocked the ever popular Loki Earrings

lokie4That’s all for this time, around.  The next update lands on the Ides of March. That should be interesting.

WIP/FOs and Fiber

It’s been a while since I updated what I have been up to in the wide world of crafting I live in.

Spinning:

I’m hoping to get a  fingering yarn once I ply it with some green I have not yet started to spin.

I have also been pondering grabbing some black yarn and creating my first three ply yarn, with green, purple, and black. Seems my mind is on a Clown Prince of Crime. Or you know people who lose control and turn into giant green rage monsters (I’m not excited for the Avengers, not at all).

Crafting:

I had someone ask me a question on etsy just as I started pondering the same. Why don’t I have any Tardis stitch markers?

And the answer to that is I do now! Also I am a bit in love at how well this picture came out. Sunlight in the still in progress craft office is a wonder.  And while I was working on those I pulled out these beads that once upon a time would have become a pandorica. Instead they became Pandora’s  box.

And of course. Knitting:

I finished my dissertation. At around 10pm on the 30th for Nerd Wars. I have about a dozen things I want to change, From yarn to pattern repeats. But I have the start of a pattern and I shall work from there.  And you know blocking… that does mean I have 2 complete shawls for 2012. 12 in 2012? Not sure yet.

The Spider-man baby blanket has grown a lot. And of course I’m carrying the blanket around in a Spiderman tote bag. What else would I carry it in?

I have joined in Rock & Purl’s sock KAL  and have donated a prize. A set of stitch markers. Now I just have to find more than 1 dpn in the right size and I will even be able to cast on.  Whistles.  Go join!

Also I have cast on Bigger on the Inside  Of course I have. A tardis shawl? Done. The fact that I had the right yarn in my stash is extra amusing. Though there is a chance I will run short as I made gloves from that yarn as well.

I should wander off to find all the other’s knitting this shawl as well, and see how badly I may run out of yarn. But, I had to start this and there was nothing to do but jump in and shout Geronimo!

Tardis Flask: Take One

August 26th, 2011

A few weeks ago on twitter I had a brain storm to make a TARDIS  Flask, and a friend who  threw a lot of instructions and help at me with the requirment that I posted a how to post once I was done. This is a work in progress though I think I will be taking this “finished” piece to  Dragon*Con with me.

So first I ordered a bunch of flasks on amazon, got spray paint, painters tape, primer, and a drop cloth or dozen.  I taped up the top of the flask, deciding that it was best just not to get anything on that area

So I added primer to the flask.

Once I primed the flask and let it dry. I spent most of the day between this and working on my Cyberwoman Costume. So it was all con prep all the time.  Once dry the primer was a dull grayish color so I sprayed the whole thing white.  Once that was dry I added strategic painters tape in the right spots.

Now taped and ready to go, I came at the flask with some blue spray paint.

All the spray paint I was using said it dried in 15 to 30 minutes, but I was wandering in and out about hourly, so everything was usually dry by the time I got to it. I added more tape and added some black detail.

Once that was done, I peeled all the tape off.  And things started to come together. Sorta.

Slightly crooked we can work on that.

A smidge better.

After adding finish. Oh dear. Damn you sharpie.

The hurricane this weekend means I won’t have the ventialltion most likely to fix this but I will give it a try.

At least I will still have this:

The Dalek is done.  Yes, that is my One Ring in sliver, the text has mostly faded so I’d have to toss it in a fire at this point, but we all know.

For the next one things I will change:

- No Sharpies
- Stencil for the windows and any other shapes so they are  more even
- Remember to do windows on the back
- Don’t go insane on the finish
- Make sure paper doesn’t stick  to project (yes this was a thing)
- Make sure paint doesn’t stick to project unless it was on the project.

Otherwise I think the colors and things, are right and I just need a little more work to make it actually  work.

All those in the path of Irene, say safe and stay dry. I plan to knit, sew, pack, watch new who, Torchwood (only on pt 3 of Miracle day), and the end of Supernatural.

Stitch Markers

I’ve made some new sets of stitch markers that are smaller than my usual style.  I was pondering what kind of markers to make for a lace KAL.  These fit up to a  US 9 (5.5mm) needle. I made a few sets in red and blue. I haven’t decided if I will be going any smaller. But I like how I they came out.

And another set in blue.

Comparing them to the pumpkin markers that I finally glazed and shaped you can tell that the new ones are much smaller.

These markers are US11 (8.0mm) so they are my usual size. I like how shiny they came out though I have had adventure in trying  to get them to dry.

I also made a pair of earrings in honor of my favorite madman with a box. Or more accurately the Madman’s box.  Ah Tardis.

So I have pushed the yarn diet off to after the weekend.  I got tickets to the Vogue Knitting Live Marketplace this weekend, and I feel like it would just be cruel to got to the equivalent of a Yarn Con and not get any yarn.  I have no idea if I am going both days but I will be there Saturday.  Here’s hoping I meet some fun knitters.

Well you may have noticed that over the last week I have added quite a few things to the Etsy Shop. I’ve added more markers, some jewelry, and pot holders.

So if something catches your fancy go off and buy it. :) I also ordered cards though it will be a long while before they arrive as there were 21 days of shipping.

But with the update of Etsy I decided to spend my Sunday making more things that I shall be adding to Etsy, or working on improving to Add to Etsy.  So new items that shall be added to the shop over the next few days.

Apples, Apples and Gloves

Polymer Apple stitch Markers have now been wired and pinned. Six lovely markers which are also up at the Etsy store. I have 2 sets and you can think about supporting your Geek here. Yep newly updated Etsy Items. All apple themed. :D

IMG_0139

I also made a pair of Apple earrings.

IMG_0138

I have finished the right hand of my gloves and have started picking up the pace on the left. I’m nearly at the thumb opening though I am very pleased at how the right hand  came out and fit.

IMG_0146

The ring finger is a smidge too long and i may pull back 2 or three rows. But the best part is on my hand it looks like a perfectly normal glove. Off I’ve gotten a few, aren’t the fingers a bit too long.

IMG_0150

Ah the joy of  long fingers.

NaNoWriMo is going well even if my word count is not what it was last year. I’m at ~15K right now which is ahead of pace but last year i finished on the 16th or so and kept writing much slower with a couple days off. I need to get prodded with the motivation stick but I was up late last night taking notes from sudden inspiration.

I’m also pondering this whole knit a sweater in November thing. As much as I pretend I don’t I do have an excess of time until I am fully employed again…and I still have the red and black cascade 220 that is supposed to be turned into a sweater.

hmmm. Or Maybe I should Knit a few more TARDIS ornaments as the attempt at making one of polymer ended like so:

IMG_0010

Burnt Time Machine – sigh. I may start weekly fail posts. Especially as I expand my craft arm into all sorts of things I’ve never done (polymer clay) and all sorts of things that I haven’t done in years (beads, crochet, sew).

How I spent my 4th of July

So first off Happy 4th to all my Americans, its still the 4th in the other time zones.

So I headed to the park, for a pinic, and I brought knitting.

TreeSee I do sometimes venture into nature. I grabbed a bag of sock weight yarn in, blue, navy, white, and black. So naturally I thought Tardis, not to mention the shirt I was in.

Tardis TeeSo mostly using my shirt as a guide I created :

Tardis Ornament Much to the amusement of the other knitters and Who fans around me. So it is about 4 inches long and I backed it in black felt.  It is the first of my Christmas Ornament experiment. The final goal being a set of geeky ornaments for aspect of my geek; TV, Books, Movies, Comics, etc…

TARDIS need I say more?

Tardis

Tardis

This is the first Tardis, flat, and waiting for me to find a darker navy bulky yarn (may need another knit picks order) to work in the detail. But as it was recognized last week at the castle I think it came out well.  The Geek cred at the castle grows in leaps and bounds.

I also hit School Products, and got  Karabella aurora 4, in navy, blue, black, and white for the 3D tardis for M. And went to The Point and found a good brown for the Daleks. Tempted to make a red one, even if its never been seen in the new series.  I have til June to figure that part out. :D
