FO: Friday Aquaman/Picasa

I spent the past weekend getting ready hopefully for next Friday’s update, (hopfully as my laptop is on the fritz) and I’m sharing my most surprising FO. There are a few other items that will go up that haven’t been photographed yet but should be just as fun. Also it gives me a chance to toy with Picasa on the work laptop.

This is a set of Aquaman Stitch markers. And if you are wondering what the photo looked like pre-picasa, take a gander below. I only made minor changes so nothing is too drastically different.

So far so good, Picasa is pretty straight forward and the basic functions seem to do enough for now.

There are also the Aquaman earrings. Both are based on his more classic outfit. Because that is what I tend to picture. Also, guys now I want to make Justice League jewelry/markers.  Though anything Martian Manhunter might just look like Christmas. But, I have Green Arrow Earrings in the works. Perhaps I have too much Justin Hartley on the brain.

Done!

After what had to be the laziest Sunday in a long time that wasn’t brought on due to hangover or sickness I finished the Justice League scarf. Funnily enough the recipient asked after it  earlier today.

There it is in all its DC glory, with an addition of Superboy at the end that came out just as backwards as the Superman S does whenever I try to knit it. But I think the trick to it is to start row 1 of the actual pattern on the wrong side. Then it should be straight.  Why this escapes me every time I have no idea.

Also while there is no Eratta, at least I don’t think so. I have found a way to simplify the flash pattern. The scary thing is when my computer crashed I lost most of the files in the pattern, so it might be a while before I can put a new pattern together as I will have to redraw all the charts.

Next up I found my knotty but nice, which is still at the ribbing stage, that I had re-cast when I went to DC, this will be  my backup project in case I fail at the main one which is starting the Christmas stockings.

Justice League Scarf

So for the last week or so I’ve been knitting the Justice League scarf for a friend. I was hoping to finish it today but there was Flash frogging on the train, and I still have to add a Superboy square as per my friend’s request.

I was trying to take pictures of the progress I was making on the scarf by taking one picture in the morning and then one again that night.

Though there tended to be more frogging on the train ride home as we can see by the apparent lack of progress above.

Today’s progress.  Just 1 and 1/2 heroes left.

Also going to attempt to blog post a day.  But yeah I didn’t realize today was the first this morning, which led to a fun bus adventure.  I will keep my fingers crossed and I do have a wordpress app.  Also  attempting to make Christmas Stockings across October. My first socks so that should be a wacky good time.

Habitat For Humanity – Haiti

The Justice League Scarf Raised  $15.84 in the last month. Thanks everyone who donated. I’ve decided to donate double that amount and ignore the paypal fees I forgot existed. So I have off $32 (31.68). It will be going to Habitat for Humanity for Haiti.

The pattern Is now up for free, and you may notice the new link to free patterns on the homepage. Though I have just knitted an addition to the pattern. I have written and test knit the Flash square. I just have to get the PDF file adjusted and it should be up tomorrow.

To get this done quickly I used a single strand of yellow instead of two so the back lacks detail. But  as I saw with the second superman Square I can do three color double knit with mirror ish images as well.

The Dalek has finally been finished and gifted. And just a couple days late.  Just in time to take in another request from a friend. But I have some lovely Royal Blue Karabella Aurora 8 so I think this will be my first Worsted Dalek.  It came out really well approx 5″ high. And the appendages are much stiffer than they were on the first two.

So while watching Ice Dancing I cast on for the shrug I designed and reading over the pattern I wrote? I seem to have made it to the end of the sleeve and had not decided what would be done next. Knit across then pick up stitches and knit down or increase until the back is reasonable. I ‘m leaning towards the second as I’m knitting flat anyway and it would be fairly simple to increase across. It will be interesting to see how to work the lace pattern into the increases.

I settled on some Malabrigo sock in Eggplant. It looks mostly gray to me but I have two skeins of it to bring my total to 880 yards.  I’ve ended up with about a 3 hour commute tomorrow, so it should give me time to make enough progress to make some decisions about how feasible this shrug is or if i will have to just pick up someone else’s pattern.

I’ve also picked up a lace scarf pattern for this journey, in case things go horribly wrong with the shrug i will have something else to work on. Also its a good way to finish off what seems like most of the skein of the purple used in the dalek. Granted I will also have a novel, my laptop for writer’s group that evening, and possibly my DS.  But I do have a bit of boredom fear.  It leads me to have lots of large bags, and more things than I could get done stranded for days.

Though I also need to work on the Flash pattern. Apparently there isn’t one in the Justice League Scarf. I Know I used the Green Lantern  outline as a base, but there seem to be no notes on the lightening bolt. And everything I’ve charted so far looks odd. Even when I tried to copy the pattern from the actual scarf.  I think I have a solution to it. But it needs to be charted and knit.

The paid time for the pattern is nearing an end 13 people have ordered the pattern so far. And I think I shall be doubling the donation to Habitat for Humanity for Haiti come 3/1.  Its more than I would have been able to do on my own. So I thank everyone who donated.

I was lucky enough to not have lost anyone, but their homes were a different story, and while basic needs are still having trouble being met, I hope that soon, food, water, and medical care, will no longer be the driving force, and instead it will be rebuilding.
