While in Orlando I brought with me the skein of house cup by Gynx Yarns. So with plans to do my first ever toe up socks with an afterthought heel. I cast on with my HiyaHiya Sharps in size 0 (2mm). Figure 8 cast on for 24 stitches and increased up to 56 stitches.
So I started knitting while at the hotel, and continued when I could while at Universal studios. Sadly I always forget that you lock up all your items before going on a ride. So on the lines, all of the lines I usually had empty hands. But that was better than, the tale of that time I lost my knitting on a rollercoaster.
I knit as we wandered the park, got Butter Beer, Pumpkin juice. I made it pretty good progress, and actually was able to finish the first sock by the time I was back in New York. Well done except for the afterthought heel at that point. Pretty good progress for a weekend wandering Orlando.
By the time I was back in Brooklyn watching the Super bowl I had started the second sock. Which grew just as fast, while wandering my usual haunts.
And once the scond sock was finished, while at a mini knitting retreat weekend. I pulled the afterthought heel. and finished the sock.
I am well into my next pair of socks, with plans of starting my third, all self striping skeins. I mean if this keeps up, I may actually fill my box this year. We’ll see. I feel like the giant Hogwarts sticker on the side of the box and the the House cup socks being the first finished skein. Next up shall be my oft cast on, rainbow socks.
Frogged and cast one three times since this photo was taken. I am also loving knitting toe up socks. You know after finishing a pair. Seeing as I have only finished two pairs of cuff down, I feel like I’m nearly at equal comparisons anyway.
Or should that be four. Another pair of socks done, and another pile of boxes packed. So does this officially make me a sock knitter? I mean I’ve actually finished socks finally… These socks are also the Favorite sock pattern by Voolenvine. This time in Indigodragonfly in Beige.
The box of sox is growing. And I have cast on yet another pair of socks. So clearly this is the time for socks. At least until I get back to my oft neglected Royale. But I suppose there is time for sweater knitting, you know when I unpack everything I own.
The box of sox kal started on Jan 1 with a goal to knit 12 pairs of socks over the course of the year and while I never expected to make 12 pairs of socks, and still don’t, I’m quite pleased with finishing my first ever pair of socks.
Apparently, all i needed was a simple sock pattern and time. I do have a lot, a lot of yarn left so that is something to keep in mind but hey a pair of wearable socks. I’m telling myself that I don’t need to cast on another pair of socks yet. But I kinda want to. We’ll see what side wins out. I mean I have a sweater to finish. Among other things…
I suppose its time to get some sock blockers…
Look at that, knitting right at right field at Yankees Stadium. Now the miracle wasn’t the game (the Yankees lost) but what I was knitting. That right there was a sock. the Favorite Sock pattern by Voolenvine. It is a basic sock pattern, that I chose as I was planning to knit while watching Civil War.
I have finished the first sock. Other than Christmas stockings and that one failed way too too big, Christmas sock for my dad, I actually haven’t finished a sock ever! Yep, 8 years as a knitter but socks are what are beyond me! I’ve started the second sock and I have the bus ride tomorrow to the LIFFF so I have a few hours of sock knitting to and from the fair.
So it looks like I will have my first pair of socks! Maybe, We’ll see what happens when Sunday arrives but I am quite hopeful! I may finally conquer socks.
