By the Numbers: 2011

As I create my spreadsheet for 2012, I started looking at my knitting history from 2011.  And the yarn tells an interesting tale. Even with the binges of yarn I added less yarn to the stash than ever before and knit more items then yarn came in. Likely a good way to round out a year before I learned to spin and could start having a fiber stash.

In numbers – I knit 8991 yards, of stashed yarn Bringing down my total yardage to 38K. Yarn purchased for projects and knit on the spot did not make it into the spreadsheet but may be a fun thing to track this year.  I knocked out 25 skeins from the stash, so I’m to about 150 skeins of varying size, and yardage.  I have a couple big projects planned so that may thin the yarn out some more.

I actually only walked out of Vogue Knitting Live with 6 skeins and added the 5 skeins of tweed my friend traded with me  yardage wise I haven’t increased my stash by nearly as much as expected.  A friend and I have plots to have a KAL to make Alleghney out of our piles of eco wool.

Updating my spreadsheet also left me with the realization I have seven projects on the needles right now (I’m counting the Marvel scarf). So I should be getting busy and see if anything will be finished any time soon. It also means I will need to get rid of my mostly broken dresser as it is taking up precious real estate and get something that if nothing else can hold all the hand knits. Part of me wants to get a trunk. A huge old steamer trunk. We’ll see how that goes.

March Updates

I usually do a monthly update of my yearly goals, both to keep them in mind and to see what progress I am making. Well when  2/1 rolled around there had been barely any change and i just didn’t see the point. I had not even added new items to the list.

Well what a difference a month can make. While  a lot of goals are in progress there is progress.

2011 Goals

1.      Knit actual socks that I  wear, not stuff full of gifts
2. Knit a sweater (I cast on Vivian on 12/25 but since frogged it three times we’ll have to do something about that)
3.      Get the designs out of my head onto paper and you know yarn (have started a double knit cowl to this effect.)
4.      Get an Etsy Schedule – Making and Posting
5.      Organize stash
6.      Organize other craft supplies Fabric and felt are all over the place.
7.     Knit for myself more (while I have a lot of scarves, I only have 1 pair of gloves 1 of which was lost and no hats!) (2 hats 2 shawls for me)
8.      Use Stash Yarn
9.      Get Tickets (flight) Hotel for D*C
10.  Put together DragonCon Costume be it Cyberwoman or something else (fabric Purchased, base pieces purchased)  Cyberwoman it is.
11.  Get a writing schedule down

11 shawls in 2011 1 of 11

So I have finished my first shawl of 2011 minus some blocking, Batik.

I think it came out pretty well especially considering its my third shawl ever and the most complicated by a long shot.

The one moment if panic that I did have was at about row 100 where it was clear I didn’t have enough yarn left to finish the shawl. A quick call to Knitty City told me they were out of the color way. I realized later that I could have asked them to order it which they have done for me before.  But using the yarn link on Ravelry I online vendors who carried the  yarn, though only a couple had it in the colorway I needed.

I ended up ordering from Jimmy Beans Wool on Friday and it was at home waiting for me on Monday via regular USPS. No expedited shipping or anything. Wee. Once my Yarn Diet  is up I think we’ll be great friends.

While waiting for the yarn to arrive I picked up the Snapdragon Tam I had started during my superbowl party and worked a few more rows into it.

I want to try to finish it by the 26th which should totally be possible as I want to wear it to a friend’s birthday where she asked me to bartend and OI thought my red corset would be a good outfit.

So I finished up the shawl on Monday while watching Ru Paul’s Drag Race. And had most of a skein of silver fox left. I doubt I even used 20 yards to finish the shawl.

So I cast on my second shawl, Damson by Ysolda Teague which was part of whimsical little knits 2 which I got since I wanted to make the SnapDragon Tam and the Snapdragon Mits.

Waves. Happy new year all.

It’s been a busy few weeks in the geek house.  I finished all the stockings with some time to spare, even if I still haven’t mailed off three.  Final tally was 16 full sized socks and 5 mini stockings. Those were about  palm sized. Sadly my SD card reader has died so pictures once I get a new one.

As far as resolutions go I tend to not make them though I often set goals and strike through them throughout the year, with a monthly update. They are not always all knitting related and while I didn’t have a list for 2010 partly because I was unemployed and mostly my goal was JOB JOB JOB.

2011 has started on a much better note.

So goals for then new year.  I add to the list as the year goes on but here is:
