Socktober/ NaNoWriMo

November 7th, 2010

So it’s November, how did my first Socktober and socks go?

5 and 1/2  Christmas stockings knit in stripes, solids and muti colored yarn. I may make a Doctor Who Scarf themed sock; hanging out with fellow nerds is dangerous and inspiring. But I Suppose I already had the idea for a TARDIS, batman, and Slytherin sock on my own so really not that surprising.

I got a mostly Yarn Knit Picks order to help make the stockings.

There was some stocking break in October, once to make gauntlets for a friend for her Wonder Woman Costume though those only took a day.

It was a pretty simple pattern, starting flat with increases every other row and every other stitch before reaching the desired width, knitting in the round for about an inch then starting to decrease to match the increased side.

It took a few tries to make it the right shape and size but I was pleased with the finished product.

Especially as I was guessing based on a few pictures of the comic found online. None of which really focus on the gauntlets.

Another break was I took one of the skeins I had originally purchased to make a sock and made a cowl/neckwarmer from it.

I have the matching yarn in blue and am wondering about making it a set and gifting them to someone, or sending them off to separate homes, I’ve picked up a few more stocking stuffers,  but likely lack about half of them. Maybe that is  a sign to make fewer stockings.

I now have 7 complete stockings, which I think is pretty good for the first week of November.

And as it is November I’m doing my 7th National Novel Writing Month. My personal goal this month beyond writing 50K is to actually finish the novel I’m writing.  So far I’m behind word count by a couple days but I live in hope.  One year I hope to do NaNoWriMo and NaKniSweMo at the same time. If I keep this commute and don’t get a car it may be for next year as I knit on the train, and type on the bus, with some occasional overlap.
