Hobbling around Town

May 30th, 2012

How was everyone’s long weekend? Did you all have fun? Mine turned out to be a bit longer than originally planned as on Sunday I was brilliant enough to fall out of the shower. Luckily my head missed the toilet and I was just in a lot of pain and embarrassed. I spent the rest of the day doing the zombie shuffle to get around, and waited for very colorful bruises to come up.

On Monday there was less shuffling and a slow trot around and about three hours of work to make cupcakes. Now these were good cup cakes but they should not have taken three hours to put together.

Yes those are s’mores cupcakes, chocolate cupcakes  with a graham cracker crust and marshmallow fluff icing, into which I shoved,  graham crackers and small bits of hershey’s bars into, because really why not?  They are delicious. I used a modified version of  this recipe  most of my mods were to the cake, and I ended up making 30 not 24 cupcakes.

So back to the falling? Well by around 4 Monday after spending  hours lying on a yoga mat, with an ice pack, I figured going to work was out of the cards, and I actually went to the doctor, some X-rays to be sure, and some prodding later and it’s most likely deep tissue bruising and I should be fine in a week. If not I have a referral to another doctor. That took most of Tuesday to get done, and Sunday and Monday were spent lying in various locations in pain, so I’m behind on some things, as I pretty much could look at things on my phone or ipad.

Laptops, knitting, moving around too much were all out of the question, as was putting on anything more complicated than a dress. That and a preemptive dose of Alleve and hopefully the bus ride won’t be agony.

Spidy Baby

May 23rd, 2012

…Spins a web, any size, catches thieves just like flies.

So I have some friends who are geeks. Shocking I know.  As they have gone off to be fruitful and multiply we agreed there was only one baby blanket for them. Even more so as pastels were vetoed.

The baby blanket pre-blocking, where shall I  be blocking this monster? I have no idea. Extra fun fact? The mother is allergic to cats. Why does this matter?  Oh no reason.

No reason at all. This is going to be interesting, as the rooms I can easily lock her out of don’t have enough room to block…

Joining things: A lot of things

May 22nd, 2012

Summer is coming up, so does that mean less knitting? Of course not.  I have instead decided to see how far I can push as I work to wrap up a few things in the end of May. As the weather finally starts to warm up, all my public transport tries for most likely to turn my fingers blue. The bus is already winning.

So what have I joined?  Well Nerd Wars T5 starts up in June and I have joined again. I enjoyed it even if I fell off a bit near the end I got the dissertation done in that last month so  yay.

I have also joined the  Nerd Wars group of the Ravelympics. I don’t remember being on a team the last Ravelympics but it did get me to finish the Dalek I knit on 000 DPNs out of light fingering yarn.

And of course I did not stop there. Why would I do a sensible thing like that? Not when there is the Tour de Fleece to join as well, also on the Nerd Wars team.  I may have had a theme. Part of it is always having  been interested in the Tour but only having learned to spin this year.  Also I haven’t been spinning as much as I feel I should so this seems like good motivation.

But that’s not all folks! Through the Loops is having a shawl mystery KAL across the month of June and I thought why not? Sounds like fun.  I like her designs and haven’t gotten around to making anything yet so no time like the present. And it may fit a challenge. There is the fun fact that the last clue comes out right at the end of the month so it will be a squeeze if I try to make it for Nerd Wars. But who doesn’t like a challenge right?

In all of this my office is moving, and we have picked up an insanely huge project, on top of the regularly scheduled insanely huge project so it will be an interesting time. There is a good chance there will be a period of working from home as one office gets torn down and another gets built up. I live in hope. So anyone going to join me in my excess insanity?

Avengers Assemble: Knitter’s style

May 16th, 2012

So I finally saw avengers this weekend. I know what you’re thinking, it’s only been out one week. I tend to be a midnight showing kind of gal. So a whole week after the release, after the UK got it a week before that I was getting twitchy. The movie was excellent. Go see it.  If you haven’t there really is nothing more spoiler-y than you have seen in the trailers in this post.

Then I got home, and Saturday and Sunday I had goals, in between bacholorette party events. Take new photos of items in my etsy shop, the craft office in sunlight is fantastic, I never realized how dark the others rooms were. Restock items that had sold, and make whatever new items came to mind. I think some may notice a theme on what came to mind…
Bifrost stitch markers. While the rainbow bridge was not actually in the Avengers, what happened to it in Thor had a lot to do with the arc of this movie.

Hulk Stitch Markers. Oh Hulk you stole this movie and ran away with it every time you were on screen. Good job sir. Good job.

Billionaire, playboy, genius, philanthropist. And then there’s the suit. Never change Tony, never change.

And the one who ran  this movie. Seriously that scene in the trailer is just the beginning. Black Widow. Competent, brilliant, kick ass, and mostly fearless.  Go ahead, try to underestimate her.  I’m sure we’ll find your pieces eventually.

I am still working on an Avengers, set, and just need to grab a couple more colors in beads, and that should be ready to go. They are all available in the etsy shop  along with the restocking of these fun items.

I Knit Socks Now

May 7th, 2012

Socks are cool.  I mentioned that I was giving away a prize at Rock + Purl’s Mystery sock KAL. ANd now with 3 incomplete sets of size 2 (2.75mm) needles I have enough to cast on both socks and have a few needles to spare.  Not that I would have had enough if I tried to do 4 needles per sock. I may have a wandering DPN problem.

Clue two, came out a bit early yesterday, but I haven’t made much progress there at all, and as the socks are next to my couch there will be no knitting on them today as I work on the Spidy Blanket on the bus.

I also in between weddings, and plague I finally got around to blocking my Nerd Wars Dissertation. Apollo Shawl Mark I.

Near the end it was odd working on a project that you know you are going to change immensely, but I did want to see what the edging would look like as an edging.  I have a couple ideas and a few vague notions I have to get through, not to mention to get another yellow yarn.

WIP/FOs and Fiber

It’s been a while since I updated what I have been up to in the wide world of crafting I live in.

Spinning:

I’m hoping to get a  fingering yarn once I ply it with some green I have not yet started to spin.

I have also been pondering grabbing some black yarn and creating my first three ply yarn, with green, purple, and black. Seems my mind is on a Clown Prince of Crime. Or you know people who lose control and turn into giant green rage monsters (I’m not excited for the Avengers, not at all).

Crafting:

I had someone ask me a question on etsy just as I started pondering the same. Why don’t I have any Tardis stitch markers?

And the answer to that is I do now! Also I am a bit in love at how well this picture came out. Sunlight in the still in progress craft office is a wonder.  And while I was working on those I pulled out these beads that once upon a time would have become a pandorica. Instead they became Pandora’s  box.

And of course. Knitting:

I finished my dissertation. At around 10pm on the 30th for Nerd Wars. I have about a dozen things I want to change, From yarn to pattern repeats. But I have the start of a pattern and I shall work from there.  And you know blocking… that does mean I have 2 complete shawls for 2012. 12 in 2012? Not sure yet.

The Spider-man baby blanket has grown a lot. And of course I’m carrying the blanket around in a Spiderman tote bag. What else would I carry it in?

I have joined in Rock & Purl’s sock KAL  and have donated a prize. A set of stitch markers. Now I just have to find more than 1 dpn in the right size and I will even be able to cast on.  Whistles.  Go join!

Also I have cast on Bigger on the Inside  Of course I have. A tardis shawl? Done. The fact that I had the right yarn in my stash is extra amusing. Though there is a chance I will run short as I made gloves from that yarn as well.

I should wander off to find all the other’s knitting this shawl as well, and see how badly I may run out of yarn. But, I had to start this and there was nothing to do but jump in and shout Geronimo!
