Shawls, Shawls, and Shawls

I’ve finished shawl 6 of 11 for the year. So does that mean I take a shawl breather? Why would I do such a thing?

This was the other mystery shawl that I was working on.

Instead I have 2 shawls I need to finish by 7/30.  They are for a friend’s wedding,  one for myself and another for a friend.

The red one is actually not for me. Shocking I know. I will actually be wearing a purple dress with teal sandals.  Fluevogs, my new crack.  Well those and yarn, I suppose, I went from no pairs to 3 in a very short while. I’m working on the red one Rosa is a quick knit, with short rows until i get to the end and add the edging, so that will be interesting.

My shawl is the ,Gothic Moss Shawl which is down in two pieces then seamed up  middle.

I haven’t been working on this much as Rosa has the double ease of being workable on the Train without balancing a pattern. Will I finish by 7/30?  We’ll keep the fingers crossed.

“Is it your birthday?”

I haven’t made a major yarn purchase since Vogue Knitting Live in January. and boy was that a major purchase. I decided to put myself on a diet, I mean I have plenty of yarn, projects, and half thought out ideas I could be working on.

Then yesterday, my office was evacuated due to a suspicious package in the trash by the entrance.  It was a little after 4 when the VP called the CEO and I had to laugh when he asked specifically if I had my purse. I am the only long distance Public Transportation commuter, so I get it, but aw.  So after a quick does anybody have any dire need to stay? No? Go home.  One coworker who’s only computer was in the office and had a deadline gave up after 5:15 so it was a good decision.

A coworker gave me a lift an I was pulling into Penn Station via train by 5pm.  So back in the city by five on a work day. I usually get to midtown by 7:30.  Just in time for everything to be closed or closing by the time I get to it.

I had a Groupon for Knitty City so I decided to head up there.

And headed out with that.  While I was being rung up the owner asked if it was my birthday.

“No…but I have a Groupon and lace is on sale…and I haven’t bought yarn in six months…”  As if that made it better, and what I didn’t notice til I was rung up, its all Madeline Tosh.

They had the merino light in City Lights. You remember my love of the city lights in worsted right?

Now I have 840 yards of it to do as I will :D .

I also grabbed 2 skeins of worsted that I want to make gloves out of.  Tart and Nebula.  Timelords come to mind.

And finally a Skein that I want to make  the Eiffel Tower Shawl (ravelry link)  with.  At about 900 yards that should be enough for the medium size.

Fo: Mystery Medallion Shawl

So I finished the mystery Medallion shawl.

i think it came out really well for having no idea where I was going when I started.  I especially love the edging.

And I finally got a chance to block it this weekend.

I really like how it came out especially with having no idea w what it would look like in the end. I think it came out pretty well. The Summer Mystery Shawl I had to frog as there was something off in chart C that just got worse in every row.  I have finished chart A again and hope to be back on chart C by the end of the week.

It’s back at this stage of development, but hopefully not for long.

And did everybody see the post about our favorite scarf over at Geek Crafts?

Building A Cyberwoman: Part I: Head/Neck

I have started to piece together my Dragon*Con costume. Or I should be more realistic and say one of my Dragon*Con Costumes.  The most elaborate of any I’m thinking of making for this year. The Cyberwoman.

I started by gutting a Cyberman mask.  As the Cyberwoman had a human face.

By the time I was done it was hard to see that the head piece had once been for a Cyberman, with some strategic cutting I now had the front of my helmet. I would still need to make the back piece as the mask did not come with a handy back panel.

I also started work on the neck piece, made of a leather like fabric in silver, I added some folds to  and will be using it to hold my chin straps and back of the head in place.

For the Back of the head I grabbed some silver poster board at Pearl Paint  to make the remaining stiff part of the helmet. I plan to have a hood on underneath it so it remains to be seen if I will have a back piece or pieces covering my ears.

Progress.  86 days and counting  ’til Dragon*Con
