More Red Shirts

March 29th, 2010

So I’ve made a few sets of stitch markers based on TOS. I blame this on listening to the Star Trek audio book read by Mr. Quinto himself.

So each set includes 4 red shirts and 1 blue and 1 gold. There are some left over red shirts that may be turned into earrings. I’d say keep your eyes on the Etsy shop for that.

I’m hoping everyone has seen the new spring Knitty? Its very pretty, but what jumped out at me was Anthemion. Its an amazing shawl, and though its possible I should have gone down 2 needle sizes instead of one I’m enjoying my first intricate lace pattern.

Its also amusing how slightly odd knitting habits cause pause. The pattern includes a K1 tbl. I insert my right needle behind my left when knitting, so I’m always knitting tbl but without the twist that it is supposed to cause. This video shows my normal knitting style when flat. So when faced with a k1 tbl like Anthemion I just sit there and look at the yarn and try to figure out what its supposed to look like at the end.  In this case pretty simple.  Though it took some frowning as i tried to figure out how to twist my stitches.

I finally ended up with a S1-knitwise (in the more traditional through the front method. Slip back to LHK then knit and viola! twisted stitch. More work but something I will likely have to keep in mind with the Pantheon project.
What’s that you may ask? Well with all the Greek themed movies that seem to be floating around I have planned to put together some designs basked on the Greek Pantheon, either based on their  myths, their designations, or their symbols/representations in popular culture.

Some examples – Hades – hat/cowl , Hephaestus- Gloves/Gauntlets

I’ve started on a Aphrodite lace scarf, with the reclaimed yarn from a sweater ages ago, that I plan to also make my first try at dyeing once its knit up.  Right now only the first section of lace is done, to look like ocean waves.

Well you may have noticed that over the last week I have added quite a few things to the Etsy Shop. I’ve added more markers, some jewelry, and pot holders.

So if something catches your fancy go off and buy it. :) I also ordered cards though it will be a long while before they arrive as there were 21 days of shipping.

But with the update of Etsy I decided to spend my Sunday making more things that I shall be adding to Etsy, or working on improving to Add to Etsy.  So new items that shall be added to the shop over the next few days.

Stash Busting Progress

March 13th, 2010

So its March. Month three of the plan to empty out the stash. How is it going? Slow going but there is progress. Also I found out the name of some mystery yarn when I saw it at Gotham Fine Yarns. It’s actually Noro Cash Iroha. I also found another skein of some purple lace.

And an update of the Year’s Goal:

Tally

Skeins Likely to Use: 138
Total Yards: 25, 558
Cast on in 2010:6

Days without a yarn Purchase in 2o10: 72

Completion

Projects: 4
Skeins: 12.25

I started yet another Dalek in Worsted Weight, and its been flying off the needles. I ran out of the yarn and that is likely the only reason its not my fastest finished Dalek ever.

It knit up in about 2 days which was great and reminded me that I may have been using lace for a little too long, for the Christmas cowl, beret, and dalek.

So I went back to the Marvel scarf and have mad some progress on DareDevil.

But along the same Marvel Plan I want to make a Captain America Circular shield shawl.  So the first part I wanted to get down was the star. I figure once that was done I could work out the lace and increases simply enough.

With that in mind I knit this star pattern, Stars From the East which was quick and easy. I think I would need to eventually make the star via a provisional cast on then work my way back out. There will likely be a lot of frogging and hair pulling but that is how the JLA scarf came to be so It shall be interesting. I have a couple other designs planned, we’ll see how that goes.

Habitat For Humanity – Haiti

The Justice League Scarf Raised  $15.84 in the last month. Thanks everyone who donated. I’ve decided to donate double that amount and ignore the paypal fees I forgot existed. So I have off $32 (31.68). It will be going to Habitat for Humanity for Haiti.

The pattern Is now up for free, and you may notice the new link to free patterns on the homepage. Though I have just knitted an addition to the pattern. I have written and test knit the Flash square. I just have to get the PDF file adjusted and it should be up tomorrow.

To get this done quickly I used a single strand of yellow instead of two so the back lacks detail. But  as I saw with the second superman Square I can do three color double knit with mirror ish images as well.
