New Addiction

So as a shocking it of news to everyone here. I’m a geek. So that means people will tell me about geeky things in their life. At Rhinebeck, I played my first ever D&D game. Which is amusing as I’ve been reading Forgotten Realms for years.  Some of the players and the DM were all fans of Critical Role.  There were jokes, and descriptions, and some hilarious shorts. It ended with me wanting to finally watch this show.

Critical Role is a show on the Geek and Sundry Twitch channel where a “bunch of nerdy ass voice actors play D&D.”  There are about 79 episodes available on the youtube channel and I think 81 available via Twitch. I am currently at episode 76 having started watching after getting back from Rhinebeck. The episodes are about 4 hours long…

So of course I have stitch markers for the cast of the show.  I have been really enjoying this show.  Vox Machina has wormed their insane way into my heart. Rolling dice, fighting monsters, and being awesome.

So I have ordered some charms to make some more sets. but right now I have Scanlan , Vex, Vax, Pike, Keyleth, Percival, Grog, and the DM.  I also want to do a full team set.  Possibly with charms from  later in the series. And some NPC sets, and guest sets.

Halloween Take 2

My Halloween Party was last Saturday, as 90% of the guests including myself see  11/1 as NaNoWriMo day one. I actually will be missing the first write in as I will station myself in the craft room with my laptop and be bouncing between prep and noveling.  Tonight I shall attempt to brave a bit of the Halloween Parade with my sister. This ls likely a terrible idea, that will leave us fleeing and getting dinner or something.

We are still eating the way through the last of this brownie graveyard.  Chocolate brownie, chocolate butter cream,  crushed Oreo cookies, gummy worms, and Milano graveyards. Its a rich treat.  We also had the savory side covered.

Mummy dogs with olive eyes!  Decorations were sparse which I may have to remedy next year. Along with not deciding two days beforehand to change my costume but I think I did well. Ultimate Xmen Storm. Maybe I’ll start putting together the many faces of Storm…

I think for two days closet diving I did well. I will be buying a different wig because this was epically comfortable cosplay. And I like having something comfy prepped for Sunday of NYCC.  Here’s a sampling of party goers posing for a group photo.  I hold my sister’s crow as she was dressed as The Crow but showed a severe allergy to the camera every time one was lifted in her direction. I will start confirming that I see her in daylight…

All in all it was a very Happy Halloween. So I hope whatever you are doing is just as fun!  Happy Halloween all!

Agent Training, Crab and More

There were Birthday fun times this past weekend. Starting with Japanese BBQ on  Friday and ending with diner goodness on Saturday, full of whiskey in between.  After lunch we started at the Avengers Station at Discovery NY in Times Square. You can see sis and I taking our last civilian photo.

2014-08-08 20.31.14

The station is fun, with costumes, armor, science, descriptions, even a few fitness test, even if I couldn’t get the weight machine to figure out I am WAY taller than 5’1″.  It was full of Avengers footage, props, and effects you could poke.I may have spent way too long at the Iron Man gauntlet. There were a couple things you could do for each avenger but Hawkeye and Black Widow. Though the Iron Man items were the only ones with epic lines.

2014-08-08 15.06.33

The only sad part came after everything, when my sister and I could not find a single item we wanted to purchase in Women’s sizing. They had a great red Cap hoodie that the smallest size was Men’s XL… I think the only items in women’s sizing were the Station shirts that the staff also wore, and an Avengers shirt with the ‘A’ that had it been a Shield logo or a more classic avengers logo, I would have been all over. Sigh. Better for my wallet I guess.

Saturday started with lunch in Red Hook, where a few friends and I attempted to eat our weight in crab.  We walked over to a small park where there was a great view.

We hung out and chatted until the sun got the better of all of us. Then it was off to the evening version of events. I again went to a great bar in my neighborhood. Tooker Alley and had whiskey wonderfulness.

2014-08-09 19.20.54-2So many good drinks, so many good friends, so far ringing in 30 has been great.

WIPW: Lavender Update

It has been two weeks since  I first hung the lavender to dry.  And while I have been checking on it regularly it looks like some drying has been happening since day one.

Day 1

Day 1

Now about 14 days later you can see some of the dryness has set in. Another couple weeks or so is clearly needed but its good to see that the drying is working.

The stems are getting darker, and I can tell that if they weren’t so tightly tied to begin with that they may have started to fall off  of the bundles. Part of the reason the instruction recommend rubber bands is to keep that from happening.

Even the sun drying pile is showing some change though not nearly as much. The humidity is likely keeping it from its one week schedule. Most of the dryness that I can tell happened is in the flower buds.  So I will soon have a large pile of dried lavender.

July Etsy Update: Into Every Generation…

A slayer is born: one girl in all the world, a chosen one. She alone will wield the strength and skill to fight the vampiresdemons, and the forces of darkness; to stop the spread of their evil and the swell of their number. She is the Slayer.

There was a theme in this update. Or well there was a theme and random geekery and Baseball. These things happen.  I started with Buffy, and was quickly followed by ideas for Spike, Dawn, Xander, Willow,  Oz, Giles, and more. So I give you the scooby gang that will protect your repeats. So we have, Buffy, Xander, Willow, Giles, Dawn, Angel, Faith, Spike, and the Sunnydale Graduation (w/ Mayor).

Oz, Cordelia, Angelus, and Glorificus are all waiting until the next update to get their turn.

Leaving Sunnydale behind, after running the sign over of course we get into a mixed bag of fun. First up, The Subway Series; Yankees, Mets, and a mix of the two. The Subway is an interesting place whenever we get a subway series.

We leave baseball behind and start looking at Bats. Batman with a Robin lobster claw to be exact.

Sticking with the natural theme we go from bats to spiders. or more Specifically a Black Widow, these Romanoff markers bring Black Widow in the shop for another solo run.

widow2That follows some magic mail, magic potions and ultimate potions.  Wizarding Postal Service, Love Potion #9, and the Blue Potion from Legend of  Zelda. Both Potions part of the House Sock family of stitch Markers.

There has been some restocking and some additions to the Peredhil family of stitch makers. These with a knit end that can fit a 10 1/2 (6.5mm) needle.

And a New Lantern Corps set.

And we have a set of Mini Peredhil stitch markers.

There are not just stitch markers in this update calling to knitters, I have a feeling these earrings will too. A sweater WIP with beads I thought looked like the yarn ball they came from.

Iris Greek Goddess of the  Rainbow Earrings.

With a slight change – Hades and Persephone have both been restocked. Each now includes one marker from the other and a few other minor changes.

Aquaman Stitch Markers are back as well as the Union Jack Peredhil markers.

A full update for July.  Next shop  update will be August 22nd.

Planning For a Craft Fair

For World Wide Knit in Public I will be vending on the 22nd at the Old Stone House. This means quite a bit of work over the next couple of weeks especially since I haven’t ever vended. So I have none of those things prepared.  You know bags, displays, even items to make vending easier. The only things  I have are a Square and Business cards.

This also means I shall be canceling the June update and  closing the shop from the 20th to the 23rd. To get ready and update changes in the shop. Instead the next update will be Friday July 19th.

I’ve been putting together a list of items I need and it just seems to be getting longer.

  • Display
  • Signage
  • Utility Apron – I have a plan of action and jeans that can be sacrificed
  • Change
  • Paper receipts
  • Stock –  I’m dropping off a wholesale order this week so my actual stock is up in the air
  • Bags
  • Time (but don’t we always?)
  • Layout – I will have half of a 6′ table.

I took a try at a display and want to change most things about it.

If I use it at all it would need, a frame of some kind,  and something more interesting than random colored push pins. I may possibly move to a metal frame and hooks.  So far I’m exploring displays at staples.

Now to work out my schedule and what I shall be doing the next couple of weekends to get ready, and checking on shipping time for any orders I place.

New Toys New Adventures

In the last few months I’ve been researching and exploring the option of a DSLR.  I needed to get a new camera soon no matter what I chose and getting a few steps up from a point and shoot, I had a few but my last was a Nikion Coolpix S620 0ld enough it seems out of stock, and a Canon power shot I think I gave to my sister, who is still using it well if our vacation was anything to go by.

2014-03-19 12.24.57-2

So I finally ended up with the Canon EOS Rebel T3i.  One of the better recommended starter DSLR cameras.  Along with the class I won from the Down Cellar Studio podcast, for improving photography I think I am well on my way to being a better camera wielder.

2014-03-22 16.48.51

On top of that  I also grabbed a photo light tent kit.  its about 16″x16″ and set up on the desk in the craft room right now. I will likely be getting new bulbs for the included lamps, but even with the current lighting my camera took some wonderful photos.

I’m still a  bit away from epic photos, but here’s hoping April’s update shows a marked improvement.

Making Monday: Eclectic Shop Updates

This weekend in between running around doing other things I got everything together for this Friday’s shop update, which included making more items and taking photos of everything. This is going to be a pretty big update for stitch Markers though only one style of earrings. I am also debuting something new.

2014-03-09 21.01.42

Previously Bifrost, Hades, and Persephone, were the only markers that were occasionally made in a smaller size for sock knitting. Now I will more sock markers, these will only be able to fit  up to a US8 (5.0mm) needle.  I will be starting with the House Sock sets, and there will be two versions of each set.  One with a lobster claw attachment for hooking your marker in place.  And the reason they are called  House Sock? Well, a badger, eagle, snake, and lion start a school…

2014-03-09 11.36.10Are you wondering what about the above makes the shop update eclectic? Well its the other parts of the update. There are superheros, time lords, and a very well known family.

I mean I think you can guess who they are. They’ve been on our television since 1989. And I may spend too much time playing tapped out at night. Each Family member gets their own set in this update.

Geek Out Sunday: T10 Nerd Wars

It’s Nerd Wars Time.  So it’s time  to see the new challenges. And we have the addition of the Ravellenic Games, where I think for the most part I will likely be competing in WIP dancing, with all the projects I mentioned in Still on the Needles, are options. I think I shall start will my color affection.

2013-09-11 11.24.32

1 – Nerdology Is that Really A Sport?  Your challenge is to craft an item inspired by an unusual sport. Something that mainstream athletes would not participate in.  – My First thought was Quidditch – Then I went wait not real – followed by oh yes it is. But that might infringe on Team Hogwarts express.

2-  Encyclopedia Volume M: Museum Your challenge this month is to craft something inspired by a trip to a museum.  –  I have lots of Museum visits from my vacation to draw from and I live  less than 10 minutes walking  from the Brooklyn Museum and have been meaning to see the Jean Paul Gaultier exhibit ages ago. it closes on the 23 so I need to make that happen soon. –  We will see what comes of it. But I am guessing bright colors.

3- Flexible Schedule Be my Anti-Valentine For this month’s optional theme, we’re inviting you to submit an anti-valentine project. Craft something that is decidedly NOT pink hearts, flowers, and chocolate.  – Possibly tie this in with the Ravellenic games.

4- Discovery Model Behavior Your challenge this month is to craft something that resembles a real, non-extinct, living organism, be it plant, animal, fungus, or bacterium. – This makes me think of cute cuddly microbes one can buy. Perhaps I will get my crochet muscles working and hook something up.

2014-01-30 22.00.14-2

5- T10 Dissertation   – Bayside Sweater –  in Fingering weight in the Remington Neigborhood Fiber Co. Color way. Based on the differences in the colors. I should alternate every other row. I find it hard to believe I actually will. I may regret that. Now is the time for swatching.
