January 15th, 2013

Today is the 15th, which means it is pretty much the halfway point  of my posts.   I’ve covered quite a few topics so far making a good dent in the list. It has been a surprisingly bumpy ride as things like my laptop, decide now is not the time to work. I’ll hopefully be getting it back on Thursday.

Luckily I have the WordPress app or this adventure may have ended on Saturday.  How have I been through my list so far  well:

The usual January Posts:

  • Goals
  • Plans
  • 2012 in review
  • 12 in 2013  Stash down
  • Etsy
  • Designing Plans

A series of one year later posts: Both pulled from the last 31 posts and the blog in general.

  • Stash – Beads
  • Stash – Yarn
  • Goals vs Achievements
  • Spreadsheet
  • Designing

Events:

  • VKL
  • Making Monday 2 posts
  • WIP Weds  1 post
  • FO Friday 2 posts
  • Geeking out Sunday 1 posts

Did I mention:

  • Owls
  • Spinning
  • Pattern Release: Bowties are Cool Fingerless Gloves
  • On the Needles
  • Pattern Release: Lanter Corps Scarf
  • Blogs to Read

Good progress so far. I’ve chatted with a couple people on this ride with me. Anyone else out there on this whirligig of fun?

12 in 2013

12 in 2o13 is not like the 11 shawls in 2o11 it is more a combination stash down and queue down. The Ravelry group is here  and it just seems like a good idea.  So my 12 projects will be hopefully the ones below with the  attached yarn.  These are not in any order and I will randomly choose one each month and  hope the yarn hasn’t wandered off to another project by then.  For example on  Wednesday I cast on #9 the Honey cowl.

1. Bloomery

2. Adoro

3. Spin a  Loop Batt

4. Spin Through The Loops Braid

5. Finish Rock Island

6. Finish  Green Purple Spinning Project

7. Rocky Coast Cardigan

8. Koolhaas

9. Honey Cowl

10. Endpapaer Mitts

11. Sherilyn

12. Finish my Hitchhiker

12 projects over the year.  Here’s hoping I can make this happen. The Endpaper Mitts will be interesting especially since I still haven’t finished the Octopus Mitts. And I have plenty of projects that didn’t make the list, like the Alpaca hat I’m still spinning fiber for, or the poor Lothlorien cape that did not make it to the midnight showing of the Hobbit. And of  course whatever else catches my eye.

Many moons ago 1/1/12 to be exact I posted a short list of goals. So Goals:

- Spinning
- Sweaters
- Gloves
-Socks
-The usual stash busting

Looking back on that list I did really well. 4 out of 5 hit.
1. Spinning so much spinning
2. Two Sweaters Done
3. Gloves –  silk hankie gloves  and well…we’ll talk about that tomorrow don’t worry it’s cool
4. Socks – um…you can’t win them all
5. Stash Busting  - Also something I will talk about in more detail  later. Almost half my stash yardage wise is gone.
Now for the new year:
1. Double Knitting – I want to do more – both knitting and designing with it in the new year
2. Designing – I put out  3 patterns last year. Can I double that to 6 this year? Will 2013 have a publication possibly?
3. New techniques/skills (last year I learned to spin let’s see what we can get up to this year)
4. Socks – let’s try that again
5. Ever present Stash busting
6. Sweaters – shall we aim for 4?
7. More Hats

Happy New Year Everyone. I hope everyone rang in the  New Year in a  way that made them happy.  I hope everyone is ready to join me on this month long posting adventure.

Some if the topics I will cover were mentioned in this post.  So let’s get started with a  brief recap of 2012. Quite a few things happened for me there and a lot will be covered in a lot more detail in the month to come or have been well blogged about when they happened.

  •  I finished two sweaters Vivian, Dark and Stormy
  • Three patterns out for your consumption: Greek Key, Poseidon, Girl on Fire
  • I Learned to spin and made items with my hand spun
  • I went to Rhinebeck
  • I went back to London
  • I went to the Kings Fiber Festival
  • 35% (47%) of my stash skeins (yardage) were used/sold/gifted
  • I started a Facebook Page and a Ravelry Group
  • I now have a fiber stash
  • My Etsy shop has doubled in size
  • My stitch markers are available at La Casita Yarn Shop Cafe

Not to shabby for 2012. Now to start working towards making 2o13 just as awesome.

31 Posts once again: this time with friends

So last year I wrote 31 posts over the month January. We’ve been chatting about the new year and goals on my Ravelry Group  and there has been interest in blogging more, and joining in the 31 posts idea. I plan to put up the topics once again and see what happens  in January.  I spent the weekend doing things like late night photo shoots, and midnight viewings of hobbits.  I didn’t finish my Lothlorien Cape so I wore my Baggins earrings instead.

So knitters, bloggers, friends, anyone want to join me for anther whirlwind ride of 31 posts.  Or any topics you want to throw at me?  Topics that are still forming include, Year in Review, Goals, and Plans, VKL. Join in here or the Ravelry group.

Those would be three pairs of Bowties are cool gloves. Two test knitters have gone through the pattern, and a third was kind enough to join in as a hand model, during a yarn heavy Christmas party.

Packing…

August 23rd, 2012

Alas, this post is not about prepping for Dragon*Con, no parade, time travelers and pirates, or villains ball for me this year. I will be at home instead. Next year,  D*C, next year. I will be back! And in the Westin, because it’s my favorite.

Instead I am packing for a work trip from Sunday to Weds. And clothes I don’t blink at, but Items to keep me entertained? Now those are important. Items that go with out saying are the kindle, and iPad.  Fully charged and ready. Because I have layovers, and combined with getting to the airport early, that’s time on my hands.

1) NYC – Charlotte – Houston  5+hrs
2) Houston – Charlotte – Tampa 5+hrs
3) Tampa  - NYC  ~3hrs

Combine the layovers with the fact that I can’t sleep on planes, 99% of the time and that is a lot of time to kill.  Enter yarn.

  1. Featherweight Cardigan – takes up limited space maximizes mindless knitting when reading on my kindle.
  2. Tilting Tardis cowl – small fun, looks like an easy to memorize pattern
  3. Another Pretty Thing  cowl
  4. Adoro (but do I really want to work on beads and moving for the first time?)
  5.  To  be determined shawl
  6. To be determined glove pattern
  7. TBD Hat
  8. Lothlorien Cape

Yes I do understand that is a bit of over kill when considering I took less knitting to London.  But there is the threat of a Hurricane while in Tampa, that is also threatening the RNC… How I ended up in the same town as the the RNC and not Nerdi-Gras I have no idea.  Even if my flight is not cancelled I see a delay being possible. So more yarn, and more books!  Oh and some clothes I guess…

So it’s time to download/print patterns, find  my notions case, collect needles, and project bags (I need more of these), and decide what will be my carry on “purse” to fit the work computer and at least a couple projects. Sadly my usual bag tore on the way back from London and replacing it was low on my to do list, ‘I’m not traveling again this year I have plenty of time…’ rightttt.  Maybe if I had remember this in time to try and choose a new one and have it shipped…

So many Ideas so little time

January 5th, 2012

There are a lot of things I enjoy, many a random show or movie I can quote. Sometimes in context sometimes to the amusement or horror of those around. I find it hard to hear the word spoilers shout being tempted to say “hello sweetie” one of my new favorite nail colors is right now is ” I think you call me…sexy.”

I go places where phrases like”…and the old spice guy and slave leia dead pool” are perfectly relevant and in context or “yes the TARDIS is bigger on the inside.”
I like things and assume that I am in fact not the only one. I like having different degrees of nerdery in my life. I also enjoy making things, crafting since the wee age of 7/8 where I got a book on crafts that came with one of those little inserts with supplies for one or two of the projects described in the book. I had already been using my mother’s fabric
The only surprise about my knitting is that I didn’t learn until I was 23. I had been playing, with beads, fabric, string, ribbon, and what have you for over a decade by that point.
There are always ideas in my head trying to get out be it in a craft, writing, or some other way that comes across my fingers. so what are all the things that I want to work on but haven’t started or finished?
  • Marvel Scarf 2012 is your year
  • Hades cowl
  • Athena shawl
  • Artemis caplet
  • Aphrodite fingerless mitts
  • Hermes Socks
  • Ares gloves or gauntlet – notice a theme?
  • Möbius labyrinth cowl – actually I just wound the yarn to make this happen so yay progress
  • Have you all seen dc women in sweaters? I want to make Batwoman’s cape. Double knit in all it’s red and black glory oh I’ve thought about this
  • Harley Quinn Scarf
  • Bat family scarf
  • Spider man gloves

You all get the idea – yes there is more lots more I haven’t even Talked about the other crafts I mean I Harry and Hermonie earrings but no Ron? Neville? Sacrilege really. So many crafts so little time. Now the next time I say I have no ideas someone point me to this post.

And so Begins the New Year

January 1st, 2012

Happy New Year all!  I hope you all had fun last night and are only paying for it a little today.

There are a lot of things I want to get done in the new year. Take a vacation, learn some new things finish some old. I tend to not make resolutions but instead set goals for things I want to accomplish in the year regardless of if I do that on 1/1 or 12/31. The more important thing I’ve found is having things I want to get done.

The newest goal I have has to be the desire to learn to spin. Vogue Knitting Live has a class that I registered for on Sunday the 15th at 8am (I’ll be the one with the espresso IV); so that’s going to be fun but that may be the fastest that I was able to make good on what I was sure would be an epic goal. Perhaps the goal should be modified so that, i spin and knit with the yarn I spin.

I also want to finish my first and knit my second and dare I say it third sweater sometime in the year.  Socks are a thing I should make for myself. And gloves, I just need more gloves.

So Goals:

- Spinning
- Sweaters
- Gloves
-Socks
- The usual stash busting

I’m sure the list will get longer as the year goes on but it’s a start.

What are your plans for 2012?

And here’s some gold silk lace weight  cause it’s pretty even if it was a nightmare to wind all 3500 yards of it.

So I have compiled a list of prompts to be talked about in January. A lot of them are from the 30 days of knitting that can be found on Tumblr I combined a lot of items or removed some I didn’t think I could talk much about. And added other categories from recommendations from friends online and off.

The prompts are grouped by category and do not have dates listed on them. I may list on Sunday the Seven questions I will answer that week. Or I may go wild. There are even with the combinations and deletions more than thirty one prompts. So some will likely not get answered. Others may get combined further, ie stashing and favorite yarn stores. Some will make sense to talk about around certain dates. Knitting/Fiber events will likely be spoken about during/after VKL for example.
